Out & About - Building your Wardrobe

A little stylish bird once told us that the trick to looking effortless is to make the bulk of the tough decisions in the fitting rooms, to deliberate real seriously before making a purchase. A pair of pants in the most current shade of blue, but does it work for you? A studded top, so on-trend, but do you feel like an imposter in it? That's rule #1 to building a solid wardrobe - you've got to get your foundations right.

Once the foundations are in place, piecing together outfits is a breeze. You are now pairing pieces you know for sure will work in every bit in your favour, and dressing up in the mornings don't seem to be the nightmare that you recall it to be. SO you've been with your beau for 5 years now, and the last time you went on a 1-on-1 was... wait.
What do you mean you don't remember?

We say it's time to spice things up in the love department. And because its always so much nicer to wake up bright and early on your days off, we'd ditch the usual Date Night routine, and do a Date Afternoon. Out & About : The New School Family

An Interview : Rockstar X AL&ALICIA Collection.02

So admist the hustle and bustle of the Weekend Market we threw the long weekend back, we've also found time to sneak in a little interview session with local designer, Alicia Ong from AL&ALICIA.

We've spent the last few months poring over their sketches, attending countless fittings,  and cutting styles we think don't quite make the list. Many adjustments later, we're finally getting things together in preparation for the launch of the Rockstar x AL&ALICIA Collection.02. Mighty excited!

Before the 2nd collection hits the stores, we thought we'd reintroduce you to the brains behind AL&ALICIA - So we sat Alicia down for a little chit chat...

Hey it's Alicia!

Rockstar approached you guys to collaborate on a capsule collection. What made you say yes?
Itʼs easy. We like everything Rockstar; from the shoes to the accessories and even the plants! So when we learned they think well of us too, we were more than happy to be able to work together on something special.


What is the difference between this collaboration line and your own line, AL&ALICIA?
AL&ALICIA caters to the contemporary global market with a higher price point, containing a few dressier pieces. The AL&ALICIA X Rockstar (by soon lee) collaboration allows us to explore our casual and fun side with an injection of quirky-ness.


The 1st collection was a success and sold really well - was it challenging to create Collection.02? What was the inspiration for this particular collection?
The hardest thing about creating new collections is to maintain that same consistency but yet bring something new to the plate. The inspiration for Collection.02 is all about traveling and discovering cityscapes from New York to Paris to Tokyo.


With Collection.02, who is the girl you are designing for?
Sheʼs young, colorful, girly and yet adventurous at the same time.





What can we expect from this collection and in what ways are the clothes travel-friendly?
Lots of easy-to-wear separates and chic dresses for day to night travel. Collection.02 features classic silhouettes like the first with an extra dose of prints, patterns and gamine touches.


Plan an AL&ALICIA x Rockstar travel itinerary for a day - Where would you recommend a tourist to visit in Singapore for a truly unique experience?

• Coffee and croissants at Café Oʼbatignolles or Club Street Social
• Take a walk along Ann Siang Hill and visit little shops, bakeries and quirky corners in the area.
• Head to Little India, visit the cultural sights and soak up the vibrant lifestyle along the streets. Pick up interesting finds at Mustafa Shopping Mall thatʼs open 24hrs!
• A stop at the 8Q SAM (Singapore Art Museum) and Art Science Museum is mandatory and we’d suggest heading over to Gardens By The Bay right after Art Science Museum.
• For shopaholics, Orchard Road (as cliché and crowded as it is) is where youʼll be headed. Donʼt be fooled by just the big brands and names; thereʼs plenty of cool shops around Seah Street, Raffles Hotel, Orchard Central and of course, the lovely Rockstar in the heart of it all.
• First time visitors should definitely have Singaporeʼs infamous Chicken Rice. Our favorite would have to be Wee Nam Kee along Thompson.
• End the night with a quick visit to Haji Lane and have a drink at indie Blu Jaz Café.

Lastly, recommend an outfit for this day from Collection.02 -
We love the wearable Jersey Tank Dress thatʼs versatile for day to night travelling but weʼre also torn between the Peplum Pleated Blouse paired with our Poppy Shorts that makes such a whimsy and sassy outfit to walk the streets in.

Our newest baby... Rockstar at Orchard 22

2012 has been a crazy year for us.

We walked barefoot for a day in store on April 10 for One Day Without Shoes, inspired you to go Live your Story and who could forget the much-talked-about and completely sold-out Warehouse Sale?

Whilst our store at Cineleisure steadily tides you through your festive shopping with our annual Festive Market, we're bringing the big guns out and ending the year with a different kind of bang... At the other end of Orchard Road.

Last Friday, we officially threw (flung!) open the doors of our newest, and our biggest Flagship Rockstar store at Orchard 22.



Housed on the ground floor of a newly revamped building that is currently under conservation, Rockstar at Orchard 22 is located at the end of Orchard Road - right next to the Macdonald House, and a stone's throw away from Dhoby Ghaut MRT.

Al & Alicia’s signature “effortless chic” is present in everything from the spot-on tailoring to the wearable design.
